Intelligent emergency management system for railway transport

Nowadays, a major safety challenge in rail transport is to manage the incidents and emergencies most efficient possible way. The current contingency plans tend be based on static procedures not taking into account how real-time conditions affect them. Consequently, decision-making process may well suffer delays possibility of occurrence for human mistakes could raise since required measures are expected carried out under important pressure. In this study, focused commuter trains, railway enhanced by new intelligent emergency management system which aims support operator tasks realtime incident or situation. This cyber-physical composed two main modules: one board train, including sensors GPS, other integrated control centre addressing four computational models. Those models cover (1) detection different types incidents/emergencies using information received from sensors, (2) calculation evacuation (if necessary), (3) selection, estimation routes communication with services each event, finally (4) provision actions decisions. Communication between modules provided GPRS due actual technology available pilot trains. has been implemented an line Cantabria (Santander-Cabezón de la Sal) three practical demonstrations were defined several use cases, tested facility incorporating all devices installed those Results demonstrated benefits system.
